"Healing comes in waves, and maybe today the wave hits the rocks. And that’s OK; that’s just today. Tomorrow is coming." - Ijeoma Umebinyuo

Healing isn’t a straight line. Some days, you might feel on top of the world, and other days, it feels like a wave of emotion crashes into you, catching you off guard. But here’s a comforting thought: just because the wave hits the rocks today doesn’t mean it always will. Healing comes in waves, and if today feels hard, tomorrow can bring something different—a softer tide, a moment of calm.

Sometimes, we expect healing to be a steady climb up a mountain, getting a little better every day. But anyone who’s been through the process knows that it can feel more like the ocean, with moments of calm followed by unexpected swells. And when a wave crashes hard, it can feel discouraging, as though all the progress has washed away. But each wave, whether gentle or rough, is part of the same journey, all moving us forward in some way.

It’s perfectly OK to have days where things feel harder, where emotions are heavier, and you feel like you’re standing against the rocks. Those days don’t define the entire journey; they’re simply part of it. Sometimes, the toughest waves are actually washing away things that no longer serve us, clearing space for new growth.

When you feel that rough wave, remind yourself: today is just one moment. The ocean of healing is vast, and no single wave defines the whole. Tomorrow is coming, and with it, the chance for smoother waters. So allow yourself the grace to feel whatever today brings. Healing is not about never hitting the rocks; it’s about knowing that each wave, each moment, is moving you closer to a place of peace and strength.
