"Don’t let your happiness depend on something you may lose." - C.S. Lewis

We all seek happiness, but too often, we attach it to things that are temporary—a job, a relationship, financial success, or the approval of others. When we tie our happiness to something external, something we could one day lose, we set ourselves up for a constant chase, a fragile happiness that’s always at risk of slipping away. Real, lasting happiness comes from within, and it grows when we learn to nurture it independently of life’s shifting circumstances.

It’s natural to feel joy in our achievements, relationships, and experiences. These moments add richness and meaning to our lives. But if our entire sense of happiness depends on them, we’re bound to feel unsettled, fearing the day they might change. True happiness isn’t about clinging to what’s outside; it’s about building a life where our inner contentment doesn’t waver with every shift in the world around us.

How do we cultivate this? By focusing on things that are more enduring: self-acceptance, gratitude, personal growth, and the knowledge that our worth doesn’t depend on anything external. When we find contentment in who we are rather than what we have or who is with us, we become resilient. We learn that, even if things change, our core happiness remains intact.

So, take time to invest in what can’t be lost. Build habits that nurture your spirit, find joy in the small things, and remind yourself that happiness rooted within can weather any storm. After all, the best kind of happiness is the kind that isn’t at risk of being taken away—it’s the one that lives securely in you.
