"Stop looking for happiness in the same place you lost it." - Paulo Coelho

As I turn a year older today, this quote resonates with me more than ever: “Stop looking for happiness in the same place you lost it.” It’s not just a string of words; it’s a gentle nudge reminding us to stop chasing things, people, or situations that no longer serve us. Life has a way of teaching us lessons—often the hard way—and one of the most important is realizing that our happiness is our responsibility.

In the past, I found myself stuck in loops, hoping that revisiting old patterns or rekindling things that once brought joy would somehow fix the emptiness I felt. But each time, it left me feeling drained. It wasn’t until I paused and reflected that I understood: happiness isn’t found in a specific place, event, or even person. It’s a choice, one we must make every single day.

I’ve learned to appreciate the simple joys that truly fill my heart—the small, often overlooked moments that bring genuine peace. Sitting quietly with a good book, watching my dogs play, or listening to the sound of rain while sipping tea. These little things remind me that happiness doesn’t have to be complicated.

Authenticity has been my guiding light in this journey. Being myself, free of societal expectations or pressures to fit a mold, has brought me a sense of freedom I didn’t know I needed. I no longer strive to find joy in places that left me feeling broken; instead, I focus on the present, cherishing what feels right and letting go of what doesn’t.

To anyone reading this, I hope you realize that happiness is within your grasp. It’s not something you find; it’s something you create. If something in your life is weighing you down, ask yourself: is it time to shift your focus? Don’t be afraid to start fresh, to pursue what lights you up, or to embrace the simple things that make your soul smile.

Today, I’m grateful—not for perfection or grand achievements, but for the clarity that comes with growth and the peace found in simplicity. As I blow out the candles on this birthday, I carry one wish in my heart: may we all choose happiness, every single day.
